Welcome to CBC Controls
Many organisations claim the ability
to reduce HVAC power usage; however they are unable to provide
basis for the claims, which are often exaggerated.
All our claims regarding CBC are based on solid
scientific grounds and backed by laboratory and field test data.
The graph below indicates up to a 90% reduction in chilled water
pumping kW, when the Air Handlers operate at near design capacity.
CBC ought not to be ignored for large buildings and district
cooling systems, where chilled water pumping kW is in multiples
of hundreds of kW.
|
Another avenue for energy saving is by elevating the supply
chilled water temperature of the chiller plant.
This is valid only if the existing, conventionally controlled
systems partial load space RH conditions are acceptable, as
per the graph below.
As chillers in large installations consume several hundred kW,
the power saving opportunity is considerable. For example by
elevating the plant leaving chilled water temperature by ~4.5
[C], the chiller power consumption is reduced by ~10%, which
of course is a significant saving.
|

Considering partial load space humidity conditions for human
comfort and industrial applications where high RH may damage
sensitive equipment, the CBC advantage is self evident, please
see the graph below.
|

First cost of CBC equipped systems regarding new installations
is greatly reduced, due to the high ΔT,
low ΔP chilled water distribution made possible
by CBC controls.
Any responsible energy supplier,
HVAC consultant, building owner or manager, claiming to subscribe
to green / sustainable / LEED building “principle”
ought to take a serious look at CBC.
|
CBC energy saving advantages:
Utilizing low pressure drop cooling coils
with assured performance at partial load.
Selection of control valves with a fraction of the coil’s
design pressure drop.
Design of high ΔT chilled water distribution systems
with assured performance at part load.
The end result is a substantial
reduction in chilled water pumping cost!
Space humidity conditions:
Are considerably improved, especially at part
load, which is 95 % of the time, even in the tropics, with all the benefits
of afore mentioned.
Other approaches, like Face &
Bypass and VAV produce similar psychrometric results, but provide none
of the benefits listed above.
First cost reduction:
Where CBC increases the AHU / FCU costs in new installations only
slightly;
The reduced pump size, distribution
pipe size, valves and fittings size, furthermore the greatly reduced water
side balancing time more than compensate for this minor cost increase.
All in all the total installation cost is reduced.

Results and Technical” sections
